Down to Earth GPS Support and Tech Talk
Tech Talk is meant to be a high level overview of how On-Board Communications brings GPS tracking information and reports to your computer. We have leveraged existing technology (GPS & the Public Networks) with our own technology to bring the multiple GPS solutions to your desktop. By using GPS & the Public Networks we are able to provide national communications coverage without a substantial network investment. The net result brings you cutting edge solutions at extremely good pricing.
It’s important to note that we offer a, true end to end solution developed by On-Board engineers. Although this is very rare in the GPS tracking industry, it optimizes the interface between the Hardware and the On-Board servers. This end to end solution provides a competitive advantage by allowing us to ensure reliability and quality and continuously enhance the capabilities of our solutions.
GPS
GPS satellite technology pinpoints the location of the vehicles. GPS enables us to “lock on” and receive satellites signals. Using this technology, our mobile unit, always knows where your vehicle is. The GPS system is a military system that is made available for commercial and private use by the US Air Force.
NETWORK
GPS Satellite and other data is communicated in real time via the AT&T Digital Cellular Network. All On-Board mobile units have memory storage. Should your Vehicle or Asset be temporarily out of cellular coverage, the mobile unit will record all programmed activities and store them in its memory. As soon as your Vehicle or Asset returns to coverage, it will transmit all of the data along with the current location.
HARDWARE
The magic happens when the data is collected and transmitted by our HARDWARE the OBC 5100. The 5100 contains a specialized software program that enables On-Board to remotely activate various reporting options for our wide variety of GPS tracking solutions.
Unlike a GPS enabled cell phone designed for tracking people, the OBC 5100 is installed inside the vehicle and cannot be turned off. By attaching it to the vehicle, you can rest assured that the vehicle can be located when necessary and the reports are accurate. Also, the OBC5100 has almost four times the transmit power of a traditional handheld GPS enabled phone thus extending real-time tracking capabilities.
Finally, the OBC5100 supports our family of products, true end to end solutions developed by On-Board engineers. Although this is very rare in the GPS tracking industry, it optimizes the interface between the OBC5100 and the On-Board servers. This end to end solution provides a competitive advantage by allowing us to ensure reliability and quality and continuously enhance the capabilities of our solutions.
NETWORK OPERATIONS CENTER
Your data, then travels at lightning speed to our fully redundant network operations Center, where it is stored for your use for a full-year.
WEB
Your data is available with password protection from any web enabled computer. There is no special software that you need to install on your computer. A quick glance at On-Board Communications OBC5100 Internal Antenna General Installation Guide. will show just how easy the system will be for you to use.
